Get a Life!

15 Jul

“A shy person shrinks back from many things that he should confront. There are many things he would like to say or do, but is paralyzed by fear. I believe we must learn to step out into things and find out what God has for us in life. A more timid approach may protect individuals from making mistakes, but the result is that they spend their lives wondering “what could have been.” Bold people, on the other hand, make more mistakes, but they recover and eventually find what is right and fulfilling for them.

Making mistakes is not the end of the world. We can recover from most mistakes. But one of the few mistakes we cannot recover from is the mistake of never being willing to make one in the first place! God works through our faith, not our fear. Don’t sit on the sidelines of life wishing you were doing the things you see other people doing. Take action and make the most of life!

Pray: Lord, I put my trust in You and look forward to moving into new areas of life. I will not sit on the sidelines any longer. Amen.”

Spruce up Your Bathroom Without Paying the Price

13 Jul

My bathroom has been long overdue some sprucing up.  So I have been shopping around for a beautiful shower curtain set for quite a while. But I had two major problems to overcome. One is that my bathroom is blue, yes blue, and I could hardly find anything to complement it. The other problem was that I found it very, very difficult to spend over $2,000JMD for the set. I could either wait for a houseware sale before I bought one or make one myself.

I chose the latter. I went to a fabric store, bought the end of a roll of shower curtain fabric for $800JMD, went home and pulled out the sewing machine my husband bought for my birthday in 2010 and one hour later…

And then I got carried away…..

The result…

So just by muscling up a DIY, I saved over 100% on my bathroom makeover and I still have lots of fabric left over.

What’s your creative, frugal story?

Cheap and Easy Multipurpose Cleaner

2 Jul

You know how shower curtains are hard to wash? Well no more! I have had my share of spreading out in the driveway with a scrub brush or Scotch Brite along with a powdered soap mixture and bleach. While cleaning the bathroom recently, I haphazardly poured some vinegar into my powder soap mixture, threw my shower curtain in just to see what happened. Approximately 5 minutes later, I was shocked at the awesome discovery. All the build-up, grime and dirt had magically disappeared. All I did was wash of the residue and hung it back right there in the shower.

Since then I have tweaked my recipe many times and this is a good representation of what works.

1/4 cup vinegar

2 tablespoons baking soda

1 gallons water

3 tablespoons powdered soap

Add more baking soda, especially if you have a lot more than normal build up.

Try various combinations and tell us about it or if you have any other recipes let us know.

The Rich vs the Wealthy

22 Jun

What’s the difference between the rich and the wealthy? The rich have lots of money; the wealthy have lots of riches. What then are riches? Riches are anything that substantially enhances your life – anything that you have, anything that you do or anything that happens to you that makes you happy now or eventually.

Ayn Rand rightly describe wealth as the result of a man’s capacity to think. If this is so, then you have to agree that even though you don’t have to do much thinking to win the lottery, the lottery can make you rich. You don’t have to do much thinking at the end of the month as you anticipate your salary, yet you feel rich when you look at your bank account. What is strange is that you had to attain a wealth of knowledge in order to get that job. And of course you were happy on graduation day because of our accomplishment. But now, in your job, you are using that wealth (of knowledge) to make you rich. Does it ultimately make you happy?

Take time to think about what makes you really happy and do it. Better yet, do what Richard  Branson Says, ‘Screw it – just do it!’ Stop tolerating the rat race. It only leads to retiring on minimum monetary gains and hoping that your children or grand children will take care of you.  Live your life to generate wealth not riches.

World Class Greatness!

22 Jun

I am not third world, first, second or out of this world. I have a world class view that continues to evolve.

I see myself just as distinguished as your president or prime minister.

I refuse to be repressed by he who regards himself as that of a higher calibre than I.

I am who I believe I am and I believe I am great!

For the Life of Me

22 Jun

I took this picture waiting on my ride returning home from visiting my mother a few days before Mothers’ Day. I so desperately wanted to take off my shoes and even dip my feet in the water but I couldn’t. I immediately started to reflect on the various things I had to do on returning home and then of how there is going to be a day when I won’t need to give the dip a second thought. But as an entrepreneur, there are priorities that I have to set to ensure that I don’t spend my whole life dreaming.

SET ACHIEVABLE GOALS    I have to make up my mind as to what I want to accomplish, when I want to accomplish them and how they are going to be accomplished. Otherwise, I will be waddling through life trying to figure out what comes next.

WORK TO ACHIEVE GOALS    There is no way that I could run off to the beach and when my driver comes he is frustrated that (a) I am not ready and (b) my feet and clothes are wet. I had to purpose in my mind that I had to get back to Kingston in time and not get too distracted.

DREAM    I am always dreaming of new ways I can impact the world. I must ensure, though, that they are manageable and achievable.

BE    I have to remain human; I have to remain me. I cannot allow my present situation to stop me from enjoying life to the fullest. So even though I didn’t get the dip I wanted, I took a picture as a reminder.

I want my life to be fulfilling so I do the things that I must to fulfill it. I want to be able to experience the pressures and the pains and turn them into joys – not just for me but for as many people that I can touch with my existence. I have to do this for the life of me!
